To obtain the lineshape, we take the Fourier transform of $ E(t)$which gives the distribution of frequencies in the electric field. Integration becomes simple if we write $ E(t)$as a complex function $ E(t)= E_0 e^{-\gamma t} e^{i\omega_0 t}$
