| Radiometric units and terminology
|
- A system of units normally used to measure light is called photometric and is based on the assumption that human eye is the ultimate sensor of radiation and thus the sensitivity of human eye is on the basis of the formulation of these units.
- In RS, however, the most useful units are radiometric units which are used for calibration of radiation standards.
- Radiometry is defined as the science of characterizing or measuring how much EM energy is present at, or associated with, some location or direction in space.
- This chapter will introduce the basic terms in radiometry useful from the point of view of RS.
