Lecture 10 : Summing up


Poststructuralism carried forward the argument given by Saussure regarding the splitting of the sign into the signifier and the signified but it saw not one signified but a series of potential signifieds and it also pointed out, through philosophers like Derrida, that binary oppositions like good / bad, man / woman etc need to be dismantled if we have to understand culture in all its complexity.
