What is hazardous waste?
- Hazardous waste is waste that poses substantial or potential threats to public health or the environment.
- In the United States, the treatment, storage and disposal of hazardous waste is regulated under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).

Class 1: Explosives
Class 2: Compressed Gases
Class 3: Flammable Liquids
Class 4: Flammable Solids
Class 5: Oxidizers
Class 6: Poisons & Toxics
Class 7: Radioactive materials
Class 8: Corrosives
Class 9: Miscellaneous hazardous materials that don’t fit any other hazard class… (dry ice, for example)
