  Wavefunction of a Free Electron
The energy- momentum relationship for a free electron is given by
 
$\displaystyle E = \frac{\hbar^2k^2}{2m}= \frac{\hbar^2}{2m}(k_x^2+k_y^2+k_z^2)$
  The $ E-k$ relationship (known as the dispersion relation ) is a parabola.
