iiii. Fusion of lipid vesicles can also be studied using the same approach. Vesicles that contain self-quenching concentrations of the fluorescent dye are titrated with the vesicles without fluorophores. A fusion will result in the dilution of fluorophores; the consequent decrease in self-quenching is exhibited as an increase in the fluorescence intensity (Figure 7.4).
