Lecture 21 : Introduction

Differential thermal analysis:

As shown in Figure 21.03, analysis of a DTA curves reveals several features related to physical and chemical changes that occur due to increase in temperature, viz., Glass transition, Crystallization of amorphous phase (exothermic), melting (endothermic), Oxidation (exothermic), and decomposition of the materials.

Applications of DTA:

1. To construct phase diagrams and study phase transitions.

2. To find an enthalpy (ΔH)
