Scanning Nonlinear Dielectric Microscopy (SNDM) (Probe Recording on Ferroelectric Media)

Figure 20.10: Schematic and Circuit dirgrams of SNDM set up.

• Scanning nonlinear dielectric microscope is a purely electrical method which can map the polarity of ferroelectric domains by detecting the capacitance from the frequency variation of a LC resonator.

• Figure 20.10 shows the schematic diagram and circuit diagram of SNDM developed by Cho et al. [6,7]

• Linear and nonlinear dielectric constants of the ferroelectric film can be obtained by selecting the order of reference frequency of alternative electric field which is applied to the sample.

• Also, PN polarity and carrier concentration of a PN junction can be obtained by detecting the capacitance change from a depression layer.

• Application fields of the SNDM are expanded, for SNDM implies functions of the scanning capacitance microscope.
