The body has been a subject of study since philosophy began. We are familiar with Descartes, the French philosopher, with whom modern philosophy is supposed to have begun. Descartes' dualism, which we call Cartesian Dualism proposed that the mind and the body are two different substances that meet in the pineal gland. Today of course the mind-body dualism receives less credence in theory and philosophy for we believe in the philosophy of embodiment where the mind is held to emanate from the body.
