Module 1 : Oxidation Reactions

Lecture 6 : Peroxides

How to Predict Product Composition

Scheme 6

The diethyl tartrate (DET) and the Ti(OiPr)4 react to form the dimeric complex a, which in presence of t-BuOOH replaces one isopropoxy group to form the complex b. The complex b then reacts with the allylic alcohol to form the intermediate complex c, which is the active transition state intermediate and it transfers the active oxygen of the co-ordinated hydroperoxide to the allylic double bond (Scheme 6).

1.5.4 Baeyer-Villiger Oxidation

Alkaline peroxide could be used for the oxidation of ketones to give esters (Scheme 6).
