Melting point

- used to indicate degree of purity and in identification of a solid

- recrystallize to constant melting point

- a sharp melting point range (<1C) between appearance of drops of liquid within the sample to the disappearance of the last trace of solid

- mixed melting points. Salt is often placed on an icy sidewalk. Why?
