Probability Concepts
Before we give a definition of probability, let us examine the following concepts:
- Random Experiment : An experiment is a random experiment if its outcome cannot be predicted precisely. One out of a number of outcomes is possible in a random experiment. A single performance of the random experiment is called a trial.
- Sample Space : The sample space
is the collection of all possible outcomes of a random experiment. The elements of are called sample points.
- A sample space may be finite , countably infinite or uncountable.
- A finite or countably infinite sample space is called a discrete sample space.
- An uncountable sample space is called a continuous sample space
