Introduction to microscopes:
• Compound microscope was developed at the beginning of 1660's by Janssen brothers and Galileo.
• This early microscope suffered from chromatic (and spherical) aberration, and images were blurred and had colored halos.

• Improvements: 1700 and 1800's - great improvement in microscopes
• Usually brass was the alloy of choice for the production of high-quality microscopes. But expensive.
• Tripod types structure was used to provide sturdy support for the microscope. This was considered one of the most advanced of its period.
