Introduction to microscopes:
• Invention of the microscope is not credited to anyone. Actually, microscopes were byproducts of research on telescopes.
• First microscope: Van leeuwenhoek microscope (1600) shown in Figure 9.02, very simple and able to study the structure of tissue, and was one of the principal scientists to discover protozoa in water.

• Subsequently, the demand for microscopes for scientific use grew rapidly.
• Improvements in design came rapidly.
• Successful compound microscope by Zacharias Janessen (eye glass maker) (see Figure 9.03).
