Introduction

In the last lecture, general expressions were developed for the stiffness matrix and the force vector using the piecewise linear basis functions. These expressions are to be evaluated as the sums of the integrals over all the elements. This lecture discusses the systematic procedure of this evaluation. First, the integrals are evaluated element wise and then they are assembled over all the elements. For the convenience of the evaluation of the integrals over the elements, local or element notation is introduced.
