Introduction

In the last two lectures, we discussed triangular elements of various orders. In this lecture, we begin the development of rectangular elements. Rectangular elements are convenient to use when the domain is of rectangular shape. The simplest rectangular element will be developed in this lecture and higher order rectangular elements will be developed in the next lecture.
