D) Civil society groups formed around certain ideology or charismatic personalities:- Civil society has started asserting in India. Today the country is witnessing a lot of controversy around formation of Lokpal bill with involvement of civil society groups. Only future will tell what their contribution to promotion of values in social life is. At the moment they seem to be divided, confused and unrepresentative of the common masses. It is not clear whether common man is really fed up with corruption. Corruption exists and corruption is welcomed by people, not only by powerful people but also by middle classes and ordinary people. This also needs to be empirically explored whether a corruption free society will be free from poverty and injustice. There is a clear one-up-manship among the civil society leaders who differ in religious, political, moral and economic orientations. This goes to the advantage of the political class and all kinds of power elite who benefit from status-quo. Civil society groups commonly use the terms like struggle, sacrifice for the nation, perfectibility of social order, and golden age of idealism but their contribution to social progress is something which needs to be evaluated empirically.
