Examples of new dilemmas

The dilemna in that in the age of hyper (very high) differentiation problems of one domain cannot be solved in that domain only. They interact with other domains. This has added to dilemmas of justice, emancipation and problem solving. The following are a few good examples of contemporary difficulties in India:

• Validity of Judicial approach to Ram Janma Bhumi-Babri Mosque dispute which involves judicial issues, beliefs and politics of identity.

• The demands of dalit Christians and dalit Muslims for the constitutional benefits given to SCs and STs which has several political and religious implications as well as implications for the interests of dalits already included in the schedule.

• Assertion of civil society groups in drafting Lokpal bill, which is to be approved ultimately by the parliament.

• Quotas for castes and classes within women’s reservation for parliament seats.

• Demands for formation of new states within the larger linguistic region which earlier provided the basis of state formation.
