Since we cannot live with pure rationality all the time, cartoon or stunt films can be a good source of entertainment. These were initially aimed at enabling the viewers to have flights of fancy from a repressive rationality. But today, these are increasingly similar, predictable and well within the structure of techno-rationality. They are produced by the same technology for the same purpose and hence even cause boredom. Where there should have been healthy flights of fantasy induced by cartoon films, as mass products today these offer little resistance to the domination by the technological order. Thus, there is a cultural ‘dumbing down' and ‘colonization of leisure' by the culture industry.
