2.4.4. Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley Reduction


The reduction of aldehydes and ketones to the corresponding alcohols with aluminum isopropoxide [Al(OiPr)3] in the presence of 2-propanol (reverse of the Oppenauer Oxidation)  is called Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley reduction (Scheme 9).
