23.4 Cytokine structure

Cytokines have distinct structures but can be broadly divided into following.

Group I cytokines are involved in immune regulation --- includes four α -helices in bundles, Interferon subfamily and the IL-10 subfamily.

Group II cytokines are engaged in growth and regulation of cells, cell death and inflammation --- IL-1 family, TGF-β

Group III cytokines are involved in inflammation--- Chemokines

Group IV cytokines --- IL-12
