| Lecture-1:Review of formation of Images by Lens | |
Review of formation of Images by Lens Lenses are widely used in many optical devices such as telescopes, microscopes and photocopy machines etc. Most common use of lens is to correct the eyesight of the person. Lens, which have one or more curved surface are capable of forming real images. In this lecture, we shall review the common lens formulae and the formation of image by Lens. Snell's Law : When a light ray traveling in a rarer medium (refractive index n1) is incident on a material (denser medium, refractive index n2, n2>n1), the ray bends towards normal. In case of curved surfaces/lens the ray bends towards the thicker part of the curved surface/lens. |
