As stated in Lecture 9, when EA = constant, the FE values at the end points of the elements match with the exact values. Thus, for p -th order approximation,

For the problem of Fig. 17.2, EA is not constant. Therefore, the FE values at the end-points of the elements will not match with the exact values but will be close to them.
