Theorem 2.5:

Suppose $X$ and $Y$ are locally compact spaces and $f : X \longrightarrow Y$ is a continuous proper map then it extends continuously as a map $\widehat{f}: \widehat{X} \longrightarrow \widehat{Y}$ between their one point compactifications.
