Self-Assessment Question and Possible Answer

  1. Briefly explain the reasons of refuting the analytic/synthetic distinction.
  2. Ans.:The analytic/synthetic distinction, according to Quine, is logically ill founded. The proponents of this distinction could not define what analyticity is. Even if they did it is explained only in terms of synonymity, definition, interchangeability salva veritate, and semantic rules. Since all knowledge is based on experience of some sort or the other, Quine rejects this distinction.
