Self-Assessment Question and Possible Answer
- Give a brief exposition of the puzzle of 'the law of excluded middle'.
Ans.: The law of excluded middle has a logical form, i.e. "either…or". Let's consider the sentence "Either the present king of France is bald or the present king of France is not bald". This sentence does not refer to anyone because there is no king exists in France. So the king doesn't come under bald nor does it come under not-bald list. Not only that but also there is no monarchy found in the France. But in both the cases, it can't be false, otherwise it will violate the logical form of the law of excluded middle, as a result, it will violate the principle of "intelligibility".
