Extensional Problem
An extensionally adequate truth theory yields T-sentences which may be regarded as meaning theorems. But the theory which yields T-sentences of the kind "'snow is white' is true iff grass is green" where the problem arises, since it threatens the very idea of an extensionally adequate truth theory that Davidson seeks to develop.
There are three ways that Davidson has tried to meet this challenge. In Fodor and Lepore's14 view, these three ways are:
- The compositionality solution
- The nomologicity solution
- The charity solution
