Module 12: Human values and humanism: dilemmas and directions
Lecture 38: Value Education-III (Professional Ethics)

At the social plane, therefore, JV identifies five dimensions of human society. They are:

  • Shiksha (education) Sanskar

  • Swasthaya Sanyam (health)

  • Utpadan Karya (production work)

  • Vinimaya Kosh (exchange, repository/storage)

  • Nyaya Suraksha (justice, security)

The goal of education should be to understand the harmony at all levels of existence and not merely to gain information about the world. It leads to Samadhan or resolution of doubts. Health leads to Samruddhi (prosperity), i.e., a feeling that I have more than I need. Production and work system leads to Samruddhi and Sah-Astitwa (co-existence). Exchange and storage leads to trust. Justice too leads to trust and contributes to Sah-Astitwa. All exchanges, however, need to take place in Avartanshil (i.e. cyclic) manner leading to fulfillment of all the components of the system. Man has created problems for himself by forgetting the cyclical and non-exploitative nature of relationships with man and nature. Exploitation of man by man and also of nature by man is leading to distrust, injustice, violence, terrorism and environmental destruction.
