Park’s emphasis was on doing sociology and his demand was to get out there and see how the city actually functions and the concept of human ecology is an attempt to investigate the processes by which the biotic balance and the social equilibrium are maintained or disturbed (i.e. when transition is made from one relatively stable order to another).
