Wood has played very significant role in our household usages. Traditionally the application of terra-cotta (brunt clay) is found throughout world. Interestingly most of the ancient toy designs are confined to basic forms with simplicity. The forms remained with minimal details. Modern toys (plate 7A) are designed for mass production. Naturally design process would choose suitable material (plastics & metal) for the mass production and durability in contrast to terra-cotta and wood which are perishable. Indus Valley toys (plate 7B) are amazing n term of their animated design and simplicity. Contemporary toy design in India continues to design and develop handcrafted toys reflecting local cultural heritage. Simple forms are adorned with highly decorative motifs (plate 7C) are found in Rajasthan. Similar style is found in Banaras (plate 7D) made of wood.
