Module 1 : Introduction to Design Paradigm
Lecture 3 : Define Problem, How do we recognize Paradigms?, Paradigm & Metaphors

In design paradigm, it is related to visual and functional relationships. In our day to day communication we find it much simple when it is compared with another known function or practice. Metaphor establishes a non-verbal communication through metaphors for a functional analogy. Design Paradigms function as metaphors, used as basis for visual and functional analogies. The visual images make things to understand easier. They give us handle on how to think of and talk about the ways that-

  • Things operate
  • How they change, and
  • How objects relate to others

When we might otherwise we find such explanations impossible. They provide a foundation upon which to base our understanding of new and familiar elements, the way it does in language. Metaphor is the bridge between what we know and what we wish to know. It Application of metaphor is perhaps one of the strongest way to learning . Metaphor and analogy might be the basis for all learning. Metaphor is frequently used in language and expression of ideas such as- - ‘hop like a kangaroo’ or ‘run like a cheetah’. It is the fundamental process, how we understand, explain, and generate physical objects, devices, mechanism in art and design.
