Module 1 : Introduction to Design Paradigm
Lecture 3 : Define Problem, How do we recognize Paradigms?, Paradigm & Metaphors

Define Problem - designers should ask the following fundamental questions-

  1. What is the essence of the ‘problem’?
  2. Where is the essence of the prior solution (if any)?
  3. Where did the prior solution fail?
  4. If it did not fail, how can the prior solution are improved upon?
  5. What other ways might there be to do things?
  6. Are there other problems similar to this one?
  7. What form does this solution imply?
  8. What other forms or basic approaches might work as well?
