When squeezed the air or liquid is drained out from inside open-cells. Sponge has the capacity to hold air inside. Similarly Loofah (plate 13B), a natural fruit that has the fibre which has the similar capacity to absorb air is popularly used as body scrubber in rural India. Air may be trapped inside glass (plate 13C) during the processing period and be used as interesting texture. Sponge Cake (plate 13D) is a popular bakery product that has similar property which is soft and spongy because of the absorption of air.

Swelling and Squashing Paradigm helps to understand the absorbing power of sponge and other similar material. Therefore, swelling and squashing shows the paradigm- bigger & smaller.
