Module 7 : Bigger & Smaller
Lecture 20 : Expansion & Contraction, Swelling and Squashing Paradigm

Swelling is a paradigm that may happen to living or non-living substance. Because of mating or laying eggs (plate 12A) insect may swell. On the otherhand leaf’s vein (plate 12B) may swell due to infection.  Due to botanical reasons swollen may happen in various vegetations (plate 12C). Sponge (plate 13A) is the most common example of swollen substance that is known to us. “They are multicellular organisms which have bodies full of pores and channels allowing water to circulate through them, consisting of jelly-like mesohyl sandwiched between two thin layers of cells. Sponges have unspecialized cells that can transform into other types and which often migrate between the main cell layers and the mesohyl in the process. Sponges do not have nervous, digestive or circulatory systems. Instead, most rely on maintaining a constant water flow through their bodies to obtain food, oxygen and remove wastes.”
