Example : A distance of 10 m is measured having 95 percent error as 0.98 cm. Determine the uncertainly associated with an observation 10.05 m for this distance.

Solution : 95 percent equivalent to 1.96 s. Hence, 0.98 = 1.96 s or, s = 5 cm. Given 10.05 = 10 m + 0.05 m = 10m (5cm (i.e. s ) uncertainly involved in 10.05 m is 50 %.
