1. EMERGING ROAD MATERIALS

1.1 Modification of Existing Materials

Existing materials may require modifications so as to

  • improve engineering properties of material
  • satisfy general specification requirement of locally available material which in turn will prove to be cost effective
  • meet the demand of special purpose materials having specific properties. Example: high or low permeability, enhanced shear strength etc

These have been discussed further under two sections as,

  • binder (bitumen) modification
