Viral vectors are categorized into integrating or non-integrating vectors based on their recombination capacity with the host cell chromosome. Adeno-associated viruses are known to target the genetic material to human chromosome number 19 (19q13.4). The incorporation of genes into the chromosome can lead to STABLE expression of the protein of interest. The other type is called as TEMPORARY where the proteins are expressed only for a short period of time and gene is not integrated with the chromosome.
