NPTEL INDUSTRY ASSOCIATE

National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) is an MoE project which was initiated in 2003 to provide quality education for all those who have the interest to learn. Every semester about 250 – 300 courses are offered for certification to anyone to enrich their knowledge database.

Currently, NPTEL is working towards bringing in an industry perspective to its technically rich courses which led to the inception of NPTEL INDUSTRY ASSOCIATE (NIA). NPTEL aims to partner with organisations in a mutually beneficial manner by offering courses to train the freshers and to cross-skill and up-skill the existing workforce. CSR initiatives are also welcomed as part of this association. For a detailed understanding of this partnership read through the MoU diligently.

It just requires 3 steps to become an INDUSTRY ASSOCIATE OF NPTEL.

About NPTEL

NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning), is a joint venture of the IITs and IISc, funded by the Ministry of Education (MoE) Government of India, and was launched in 2003. Initially started as a project to take quality education to all corners of the country, now, offers close to 200+ courses every semester. The technical courses are being offered in about 22 disciplines. Text transcriptions are provided along with the course content. The possibility of translating the transcripts is also being considered.

Our Partners

1650+ colleges across India are associated with NPTEL today in the form of NPTEL Local Chapters. We have started to expand our reach outside the country as well. Students from these colleges take up basic/core/elective or job-oriented courses, depending on their year of study. These courses help them gain in-depth domain knowledge and make them employable. CSR

NPTEL is a non-profit organization, funded by the MoE. These funds are limited to content creation and delivery. The exam fee collected from the students would be adequate only to conduct the examinations and distribute the certificates.

Funds received through CSR will enable the deserving candidates from all over India, to complete the learning process and obtain certificate.

Partnering with Ether Services since 9 July 2018.

Ether Services is a Digital Marketing & Software Training firm located in Coimbatore which was started in the year 2013. Partnering with Green Research IT Solutions since 29th March 2018.

Green Research IT Solutions is involved in Software Development, Research, Training, and Consultancy since 2013.

Partnering with Internshala since 8th March 2018.

Internshala provides internship opportunities to over 2.5 million students registered with it. Students can find internships in a diverse range of fields including engineering, management, applied arts, science, law, design, hotel management, architecture, and so forth.

In 2016-17, 400,000+ internships (across different streams) were listed on Internshala with an average stipend of Rs. 7,500 per month. 46% of the internships also offered an option for interns to convert the internship into a full-time employment upon completion and thus helping students with their job search as well. Both students and colleges can register themselves on Internshala for free.

Students of colleges that have partnered with NPTEL will have access to over 4.5 Lac+ internships listed on Internshala. The platform will also organize online workshops for students on internship preparation. The colleges will be able to track their students’ performance in internships secured via Internshala.

This collaboration aims at:

1. connecting students with relevant internship opportunities through the portal

2. promoting skill building and helping the youth find better job opportunities

Partnering with VuNet since 22nd January 2018.

This collaboration aims at

1. Co-Partnering – The name and logo of the company can to be used in the NPTEL website.

2. Publicising NPTEL Online Certification Courses among the VuNet employees and encouraging enrolment and completion of the same.

3. A SPOC from VuNet will be nominated, who would have access to the data of the employees that are enrolled in NPTEL courses.

4. The SPOC can nominate a mentor (for each course) from VuNet. Each employee will be attached to a mentor, who in-turn would assist the employee in course completion.

Partnering with Glass Academy since 20th February 2018, to reach out to the budding civil engineers and architects, on efficient use of Glass in Construction.

This collaboration mainly aims at,

1. Co-offering course(s) – Experts from Glass Academy along with NPTEL (IIT faculties) would be co-offering courses, for Architecture and Civil Engineering students. Glass in Buildings - a course that will be co-offered by NPTEL and Glass Academy - is to be launched in July 2018.

2. The possibility of offering internships and job opportunities to top performers of the course(s) are also being actively explored.

Advantages for the industry:-

This initiative will provide the industry perspective for the academic courses and practical use of glass in the market. These course(s) will tap into a niche area, uncommon in academic circles, as in spite of advancements in ‘glass’ space, there are few, if any, formal academic courses that educate budding civil engineers and architects on the efficient use of glass.

Infoziant Systems Private Limited was founded in the year 2015. NPTEL Partnered with NLC India Limited Neyveli as NPTEL INDUSTRY ASSOCIATE
on 19 th September 2018.

'NLC India Limited (NLCIL)’ formerly Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited is  a 'Navratna' profit making, Government of India Enterprise engaged in mining  of lignite, coal  and generating thermal power through lignite  & coal based power plants and renewable energy from its Solar and Wind plants. NLCIL was established by GOI in 1956, following the discovery of lignite deposits in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu.  NLCIL comes under the administrative control of Ministry of Coal, GOI and serves as an important source of power generation to the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Rajasthan, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and Union Territory of Puducherry. NLCIL currently operates four opencast lignite mines with a  total capacity of 30.6 Million Tonnes per Annum (MTPA) and six  thermal power stations (including a JV) and Renewable Energy units in Neyveli and TN with a total installed capacity of 4731 MW. NLCIL is on the anvil of stepping up its production in mining front (both lignite and coal) to 93.15 M MTPA and power generation to 21011 MW by 2025.

NLCIL proposes to use NPTEL courses for the upskilling and cross functional competency development of their employees and also collaborate with NPTEL to co-offer courses related to their domain expertise of Power generation, Mining and renewable sector and provide the industrial perspective to enhance the technical content created by the course instructors from IITs/IIScs.

Salcomp, a Finnish company develops and manufactures adapters for mobile phones and other electronic devices. Salcomp is globally #1 and the market leader in smartphone and tablet chargers and main customers include all Top 10 smartphone and tablet brands. Salcomp also delivers power adapters for notebooks, gateways, routers, set-top-boxes, lighting and other electronic applications. Outside the core adapter offering, Salcomp also develops and manufactures battery packs for smart phones.

Salcomp's headquarter is located in Salo (Finland), and the production plants in Chennai and Noida (India), Shenzhen and Guigang (China) and in Manaus (Brazil) with overall capacity of over 600Mpcs/annum. Salcomp inaugurated its first manufacturing facility during 2007 inside Nokia Telecom SEZ Park, Sriperumbudur, Kancheepuram District. Salcomp has further expanded with two additional facilities since then. One plant at Noida was established in June 2016 and the other plant at Sriperumbudur in April 2017 as a result of “Make in India” initiative by the Government of India. Salcomp produces more than 10 million chargers every month and a certain part of vertical integration (key component manufacturing) inhouse. Salcomp has produced more than 800 Million chargers out of these facilities in India, and currently the largest manufacturer of high quality, high volume chargers. Salcomp products are BIS certified, designed to meet strict safety and environmental regulations and supplied locally to most OEMs, as well as exports to other parts of the world.

For manufacturing Chargers as well components, Salcomp currently engages around 8000 direct employees and more than 5000 indirect employees in India for its manufacturing facilities located at Chennai and Noida. At Chennai, Salcomp employs about 7000 people of whom more than 85% are women. Kanchipuram District where Salcomp is located is a hub for automotive Industries and most of men get a chance to be employed leaving fewer opportunities for women. Salcomp identified this gap already during 2007 and since then have provided an opportunity for women thereby empowering them in the society and a chance for self-fulfilment.

Electronic components are quite tiny and the assembly job needs quite a concentration, nimble fingers and passion for perfection adds up further as to why women workforce are preferred for Electronics assembly jobs.

Salcomp came to Chennai with a sole reason to serve to Nokia. When most Nokia’s supplier including Nokia shut down their factories eventually during 2014, Salcomp not only remained committed with its sole manufacturing unit inside the Nokia SEZ, but later went on to acquire the factory building from Laird Technologies during 2017 and also came as a saviour by acquiring the defunct Nokia mobile phone factory as well as LiteOn Mobile factory buildings during late 2019. With these the entire Nokia SEZ has been revived and shall be back to action during 2020.

Salcomp today holds more than 80% of the footprint within the Nokia SEZ and estimates to provide employment to about 20000 people by the end of 2023. These facilities will not only produce chargers, but also key component that goes into a charger as well as several components that goes into a phone.
