Course Name: Reactive Intermediates Carbene and Nitrene

Course abstract

Reactive intermediates are one of the important subjects in basic organic chemistry courses. Among different reactive intermediates, carbene & nitrene being neutral and highly electron deficient species play a significant role in various organic transformations. In this course we will disclose its generation, stability, structure, reactivity etc. Next, the application of these reactive intermediates in various organic reactions will be disclosed in detail. Furthermore, the course will accommodate related assignments which might help in various competitive exams in future.

Prof. Rajarshi Samanta

After finishing my BSc (2002) and MSc (2004) from Jadavpur University, I moved to IICT, Hyderabad for my doctoral studies under Prof. Tushar K Chakraborty on Cp2TiCl mediated radical generation and its application on various asymmetric syntheses. On completion of doctoral studies (2010), I joined in Max-Planck Institute for Molecular Physiology, Dortmund, Germany for my postdoctoral studies with Max-Planck Fellowship under Dr. A. P. Antonchick. After spending more than 3 years, I returned back to India and joined at IIT Kharagpur as an assistant professor since September, 2013.
