Course abstract
The concept Build Back Better (BBB) proposes an integrated and holistic approach to post-disaster reconstruction and recovery in order to address the wide range of prevalent issues and ensure that the affected community is redeveloped in a resilient manner for the future. For a comprehensive understanding of the Build Back Better principles, it is valuable to analyze the complete list of propositions from all prominent studies and guidelines which depict effective post-disaster reconstruction and recovery. It is important to identify key areas of present research on and potential research gaps or future research needs for BBB.
The proposed online MOOC course on BBB introduces research concepts, best practices, project experience, field studies, direct observation, and critical research findings on following aspects of Build Back Better (BBB) in disaster recovery.

Prof. Ram Sateesh Pasupuleti
Dr. Ram Sateesh Pasupuleti is a registered architect in Sweden and India. He has attained his educational qualifications from most prestigious institutions- Doctorate from SABE University of Westminster, London, UK, M.A. in International Studies in Vernacular Architecture, Oxford Brookes University, Oxford UK, and a Bachelor of Architecture from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, India. He has gained interesting working experiences from UK, Cyprus, Sweden and India. Such experiences across different working environments and geographies have endorsed his professional skills in trans-national education and research challenges and activities. His original quest of knowledge has contributed for designing culturally responsive environments in post disaster recovery in South Asian context. His research contributions have opened up interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary research ideas involving vernacular architecture, urban design, sociology and cultural anthropology. He has been a lead person for thematic research group Adaptability in Attractive Built Environments at LTU Sweden. He was also (as deputy coordinator) coordinating Masters Course in Climate Sensitive urban planning and building at LTU. He has been a coordinator and also as organizing committee member for various National and international level symposiums, competitions, workshops and other intercultural activities.More info
Prof. Subhojyothi Samaddar
Dr. SubhoJyothi Samaddar Associate professor, Disaster Prevention Research institute, Kyoto university. Japan. Subho will contribute to 40% of the development of new course. He will bear his international travel to India through any project or other means. He may require local air travel and taxi services from (Delhi to Roorkee) NPTEL or IITR. He may prepare all the required lectures in japan and he can deliver all the shootings within a week’s duration stay here in Roorkee.More info
