Course Name: Landscape Architecture and Site Planning - Basic Fundamentals

Course abstract

In the event of rapid urbanization there is a trend of fast depletion of natural resources especially the vegetation. Depletion of natural ground-cover and Landscape is one of the major sources of natural hazards, such as Landslide, Flood, Heat Island, Soil erosion etc. There is growing interest in this field of knowledge. This course is tailored very effectively to introduce all aspects of Plant sciences, Planting design techniques, Garden maintenance and management. This course would be very useful for the students as well as practicing architects, planner, engineers and common people. The lectures would be supported with real-time illustrations through sketches and analysis, in addition to the digital illustrations time to time. These would result in easy comprehension by the students of different level of ability and exposure. Multiple illustrations with case studies would be the strength of this course disseminated with lucid lectures.

Prof. Uttam Kumar Bannerjee

Dr. Uttam K Banerjee is a senior Professor in the Department of Architecture & Regional Planning at IIT Kharagpur where he has served as the Head of the department from 2004 to 2007. He has graduated with B.Arch degree, post-graduated with Master of City Planning and PhD in Transportation system evaluation from IIT Kharagpur. He has a wide spectrum of knowledge with academic, research and professional experience in the multiple domains associated with Architecture, Planning, Infrastructure, Landscape, Environment and Computer Applications. He has coordinated a training program for the architects in the eastern region titled NPCBAERM (National Program for Capacity Building of Architects on Earthquake Risk Management) as NRI for the national mission sponsored by Ministry of Home Affairs Govt. of India. He has introduced core courses on the Disaster responsive design and Management at the UG and PG level in the Department of Architecture and Regional Planning at IIT Kharagpur and taught the courses for many years.
