Course Name: Advanced Linear Continuous Control Systems: Applications with MATLAB Programming and Simulink

Course abstract

Today, there is an utmost need to understand advanced control engineering on account of its multidisplinary applications in various areas of engineering. The course on advanced linear control system design introduces the fundamental concepts, applications and understanding through Matlab programming and Simulink. This course is a core course for PG student and an elective course for UG. In this course, various methodology of modeling in state space, state transition matrix, and solution in state equation shall be studied. Further, the concept of controller design, observer design (Full order and minimum order), and optimal pole placement design through LQR and LQG will be discussed. The theory will be supported by a variety of numerical examples and practical examples. Software programs in MATLAB environment and Simulink will be studied for the better understanding of the advanced linear control techniques for continuous systems.

Dr. Yogesh Vijay Hote

Yogesh Vijay Hote is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. He received B. E. degree in Electrical Engineering from Government College of Engg., Amravati, Amravati University in 1998 and M.E. degree in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Control Systems from Government College of Engg., Pune, Pune University in 2000. He also received Ph.D degree in Instrumentation and Control Engineering., Faculty of Technology, University of Delhi, in 2009. Dr. Hote has nearly 17 years of teaching and research experience. His main fields of expertise include robust controller design, model order reduction techniques and their applications in load frequency control, dc-dc converters and robotic systems. He is teaching courses related to control systems in Electrical Engineering department, IIT Roorkee from last 6 and half year. He has guided 5 Ph.D research scholars and 20 M.Tech students and 4 Ph.D research scholars and 4 M.Tech students are under process. He has published 80 articles in reputed journals and conferences. He has also published a monograph related to stability analysis of uncertain systems. He is also involved in sponsored project of IIT Roorkee and consultancy projects. He was a part of committee for meter testing drive conducted by Govt. of National capital territory Delhi in 2003. He is a member of IEEE and ISTE. He is working as reviewer of top rated journals such as IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control etc. He is also a member of board of studies for various institutes, in India. He worked as a joint secretary in prestigious international conference (CERA) which was organized in the dept. of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee in 2013. He has organized short term courses related to control system and their application in IIT Roorkee. He has been invited as keynote speaker/expert speaker in various short terms courses and international conferences. He has also been part of technical programme committee of various national and international conferences in India and abroad.
