Course Name: Microwave Theory and Techniques

Course abstract

The course will be broadly focusing on analysis, design and development of microwave circuits and systems. The detailed topics to be covered are given below: 1. Introduction to Microwaves-History and applications of Microwaves, Mathematical Model of Microwave Transmission-Microwave transmission modes, waveguides and transmission lines, Impedance Matching, Microwave Network Analysis- ABCD and Scattering parameters. 2. Passive and Active Microwave Devices- Directional Coupler, Power Divider, Magic Tee, Attenuator, Resonator. Microwave active components: Diodes, Transistors, Microwave Tubes 3. Microwave Design Principles- Microwave Filter Design, Microwave Amplifier Design, Microwave Power Amplifier Design, Low Noise Amplifier Design, Microwave Mixer Design, Microwave Oscillator Design. Microwave Antennas- Antenna parameters, Antenna for ground based, airborne and satellite borne systems, Planar Antennas. 4. Microwave Measurements, Microwave Systems, Effect of Microwaves on human body, Monolithic Microwave ICs, RFMEMS for microwave components, Microwave Imaging.

Prof. Girish Kumar

Girish Kumar received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India, in 1983. From 1983 to 1985, he was a Research Associate with the Electrical Engineering Department, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada. From 1985 to 1991, he was an Assistant Professor with the Electrical Engineering Department, University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, ND, USA. Since 1991, he is with Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-Bombay), Mumbai, India, where he is currently a Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department. He has authored more than 290 papers in the international and national journals and conference proceedings. He is an author of two books and filed for five patents. His research interests include microstrip antennas and arrays, broadband antennas, microwave integrated circuits and systems.
