Bipolar Junction Transistor

A bipolar junction transistor is formed when two p-n junction are formed back to back. The transistor could be either p-n-p or n-p-n. The middle layer is thin and is called the base, whereas the side layers are emitter and collectors respectively. The transistors are used for voltage amplification.
