Exercise-5

A steel plate 3m × 3m × 3 mm is heated to a temperature of 600 K and hung horizontally in a laboratory at 300 K. Calculate the initial heal loss (w) from the steel plate.

SOLUTION

For a plate with a surface warmer than fluid facing upward

At film temperature

 ; hence flow is turbulent

.

If warm face faces downward

If the plate is hung vertically
