Optical fiber sensors

FBG and Fabry-Perot sensors are the most common optical fibers used for SHM purposes and can measure strain as a direct translation of phase shift or wavelength shift. The introduction of wavelength division multiplexer (WDM) has allowed multiple FBGs on a single fiber. Embedded optical fiber sensors are desirable as they present a possibility to obtain localized information related to the damages such as delamination, debonding or matrix cracking.
