Fabrication of MMC
There are three procedures generally used to fabricate MMCs. Solid state fabrication - by using diffusion bonding. Mono-layers of fibres and matrix deposited over it is developed in high temperature and pressure. The mono-layers are letter stacked to produce the MMC. Often metal matrix is sprayed in powder form over continuous filament tows and hot isostatic pressing is applied to form the composite. In the liquid phase fabrication method the mostly used technique is known as in-situ development technique in which both the fibres and the matrix are developed together.
The figure below shows a co-continuous fabrication method in liquid-phase.
