What is Polymer?

The word Polymer refers to materials which are having ‘poly’ or many repeated ‘mer’s or units. In fact a single unit of Polymer is known as Monomer, two monomers form a ‘Dimer’, a monomer farther added with a dimer will form ‘trimar’s.

Equivalently, the degree of polymerization (DP) of a monomer is defined as one. Thus a polymer having DP as ‘n’ can react with another polymer of similar material having DP as ‘m’ to form a polymer having DP as ‘m+n’.
