Module 5: Principles of Active Vibration Control

Lecture 22: Introduction to Active Vibration Control: Organization

Summary of the Lecture

  • Active Vibration Control (AVC) is shown to be absolutely necessary for vibration control in space structure where passive vibration control accrues high weight penalty
  • Control-Structure Interaction problems during movement/maneuvering of flexible-body system needs AVC – a case study related to MACE experiment is illustrated.
  • AVC could also be used for traditional systems like Vehicle Suspension where low-frequency vibration isolation is necessary. Again a test-case is discussed.
  • The disadvantage of AVC, specially spillover is explained.
  • Finally, three basic control strategies are outlined.
  • In the next lecture, we will talk about classical SISO control for AVC

Congratulations! You have finished Module 4.
