Module 5: Principles of Active Vibration Control

Lecture 22: Introduction to Active Vibration Control: Organization

Traditional Application of AVC

  • Active Vibration Control can also be used in more traditional applications like control of vibration due to excitation forces like earthquake, wind, unbalanced motors and waves.
  • In such applications, the control system integrated with a range of actuators like electromagnetic (EM), electro-hydraulic (EH) and pneumatic actuators (EP) are used to provide counteractive actuation forces such that the motion of the structural system could be controlled. The figure below shows a typical controller-actuator system.
  • Note that EM, EP or EH actuators are more preferred here due to the availability of large actuation forces.
